Sometime last month, someone (I forget who and don't have time to look it up now, or I'd give props) noted that the first Megatokyo comic is dated 14 August, 2000. Now I seem to recall that the MT site existed before that, and the "birth" of the comic may also be considered to predate that posting by a couple of months. But for lack of a more solid date, I offer a congrats to Fred on this 5th anniversary of the first posted strip. (At least, as provided by the "drop down of doom!")

So, I offer up this cheezy take on a well-known TV show theme song. It was dashed off fairly quickly, and there's some considerable artistic license taken with events in order to keep it all in the two verses of the original. But I think it's passable! wink.gif

Come 'n listen to my story 'bout a man named Fred
a poor architect, with some ideas in his head.
'n then one day, Rodney said, "Hey, you and me,
oughta start a site to showcase our attempts at comicry!"

Web-, that is. virtual publishing. free content.

Well the next thing you know, Megatokyo's a hit,
Fred gives up his day job after he and Rodney split,
Sarah marries Fred and then they open their own store,
to make a living off the sale of MT swag galore!

fanboy shirts. artist's supplies.

"The Michigan Manga-ka!"
[banjo solo]

Legal Disclaimer -- This is NOT meant to reopen the Fred/Rodney split debate: if you wanna do that, take it elsewhere! What I wrote was simply to get it to scan -- I neither offer nor intend opinion on the subject.

edit: It occurred to me that I was using RL names "Fred" and "Sarah", but comic name "Largo." Since "Rodney" and "Largo" both have two syllables, I made the substitution just to keep things consistent. Not that it really changes the filk.[/edit]

Here's to many more years of Fred's comic production: MT, Warmth, and whatever else may come!

Genius. I love how you "abbreviate" the words to fit in with the southern accent.

My only critique is somewhat nitpicky, but it's something that always bothers me - acronyms in a filk (for instance, look at what's otherwise one of my favorite filks). "MT swag" is awkard to sing, and in this case could've been replaced with, say, "Mega-swag".

As filks go, this one is one of the best I have heard or read.

And best wished to happy couple too!

That is pure genius. Genius, I say! cool.gif

Sad part is, I'm old enough to have placed the original tune right away, without the title being explicitly mentioned.
